Warden Madden and Staff 1898
This photo is thought to be an outgoing portrait of Madden with his staff. Wardens came and went with the shifting political winds - a new governor of a different political party often resulted in change of warden.

Like Father, Like Son
William Hubbard served over 30 years as an officer. His son, Ernest, served 43, rising to the rank of Assistant Deputy Warden. It is common for generations of the same family to work at the prison.
Lawrence "Spook" LaBarge, Security Director
A standout high school football player, LaBarge had an exemplary career at the prison as well, eventually becoming Security Director.

Lindley was a familiar face in the Control Center for many years.
Hospital Steward Harry Kratochvil
Hospital Steward Harry Kratochvil serving from 1902 -1910, Mr. Kratochvil apparently took a leave of absence to study medicine and returned as a bona fide doctor.
Martin McCarty
From the prison's earliest days he patrolled the walls and towers. He was a crack shot and proved it on several occasions. He spent 49 years in the employ of the state, being denied his 50th anniversary when he slipped on the ice and broke a hip on his way to work. See STORIES for more about this amazing man.
